In 2008, NJM & Co will be releasing a full online package of tutorials surrounding the accounting stream. The information will commence at the basic level, certificate III through to the advanced diploma. The information is designed to cater those who need too "touch up" their own knowledge at any given time when stuck or the mind goes blank. The information will by no means substitute as "formal" or "qualified" education. The information IS NOT taxation advice. It is purely informational to those interested. Go to bookkeeping tutorials index now.
For those willing to pursue employment opportunities with NJM & Co or another employer surrounding the bookkeeping and accounting industry, the below information is provided for both attendance courses in Victoria or through external (distance) learning. Whether your a single mother on a pension, unemployment benefits or other Government benefits, distance learning is a viable solution for you. Many believe you need to pay thousands through a distance education company or their so called payment plans, when in effect you can achieve formal qualification through a TAFE institute who recognises and applies Government subsidies on your behalf from those applying with a pension or veteran gold card.
For example, you can take a typical course that costs $700 in hourly fee's to the base rate off $50 for those who meet subsidised standards. This offcourse does not include the cost of books and material, though the main cost is the hourly fee. TAFE Australia wide provide these learning opportunities for all Australians. In as little as 12 months, you could be performing tax returns to the ATO for individuals and companies if motivated.
MYOB training is also available from NJM & Co on an as is basis. MYOB training can be performed on-site, off-site or by remote desktop learning.
The required formal modules for accountancy / bookkeeping as at 2007/2008 training years are:
MYOB offer formal software training and accountancy modules in lieu of TAFE education. MYOB training is not required if you're seeking formal education from TAFE. MYOB is taught within the above TAFE modules. Software training from MYOB is more for DIY business owners who manage their own bookkeeping aspects; those who only need a specific knowledge aspect to cater their business without broad formal training. MYOB offer basic online setup training to advanced software and accounting courses.
The basic module to get you into the bookkeeping industry is certificate III which encompasses the industry standard MYOB accounting software. Some other training establishments may use another software, which is typically not recommended as the accounting industry is primarily all MYOB equipped.
Quickbooks is more a software for the self accounting small business, or mum and dad type business, not the accounting industry at the professional level. Accountants are primarily MYOB equipped, which means from the basic level all files need to be sustained across the one platform in order for your accountant to reconcile and lodge fiscal year documents.
