NJM & Co Financial Solutions Pty Ltd are an authorised BAS service provider In Accordance With (IAW) the Income Tax Assessment ACT 1936, Part VIIA, Division 7, subsection 251L(6). Many business owners would not be aware that bookkeepers generally cannot perform BAS services for a fee.

IAW with Australian Taxation Office (ATO); "It is an offence to knowingly or recklessly charge a fee for the provision of tax services if you are not a registered tax agent or a person eligible for an exemption. Offenders can be prosecuted and fined up to $22,000 for a breach of this law." NJM & Co Financial Solutions Pty Ltd are provisioned to charge a fee for BAS services IAW above Federal laws under the jurisdiction of being a qualified BAS Service Provider.

Australian Taxation Office (ATO) Scheme & Tax Practitioners Board

The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) have developed a BAS Service Provider accreditation scheme, where bookkeepers, from 1 March 2010, can no longer have exemption through sponsorship by a third party registered tax agent to lodge BAS returns directly to the ATO. This is a mandatory requirement for any bookkeeper that fills or lodges BAS for a client. NJM & Co are an official, accredited provider through the ATO and have direct access to BAS Service Providers Portal with the ATO.

If you're not submitting your BAS directly to the ATO as a business owner, through a registered tax agent or authorised representative such as NJM & Co, you must by law. If you have a bookkeeper charging a fee for BAS services and cannot provide you, as a business owner, evidence that they are a BAS Service Provider, you would be advised to cease such services immediately and seek qualified services that comply legally with the Australian Taxation Office & The Tax Practitioners Board. Legal action may be taken by the governing bodies for unauthorised bookkeepers preparing BAS returns for a fee.
